Cameroon Fact Sheet |

In the heart of the gulf of Guinea, Cameroon's
boundary spans 475440 Sq. Km and has a current
population of more than 16million made up of a
mosaic of at least 250 ethnic groups (divided
within 7 major ethnic groups). Cameroon owes its
name to a Portuguese sailor - Fernando Pôo who
in 1472 was amazed by the amount of prawns in
the river Wouri which he named "Río dos Camarões"
whence the name Cameroon. There are more than 200 vernacular languages in
Cameroon. The Cameroonian culture marvels in a
maze of diversity that gives it an admirable
characteristic that resembles an "Africa in
one".

With its median Geographic position in Africa,
its multiple tourist attractions, its impressive
cultures and its endowment with diverse
religious and ethnic groups Cameroon is always
deservedly referred to as "Africa in miniature"
CANADA-CAMEROON: Just a Historic coincidence?
It is in Cameroon that Canada opened its first
Sub Saharan African Embassy
Canada and Cameroon are the only two countries
in the world that share English and French as
their official languages and are members of both
the Francophonie and the Commonwealth bodies.
In a past not that distant, Cameroonians started
coming to Canada, generally for studies; Once
that was achieved they returned to Cameroon.
Recently, the trend is not unidirectional. Some
Cameroonians have decided to establish and build
their lives in Canada. It is with pride today
that a nearly 5000 person strong Cameroonian
community in Canada sees itself positively
