Cameroon Facts sheet:
In the heart of the gulf of Guinea, Cameroon's
boundary spans 475440 Sq. Km and has a current
population of more than 16million made up of a
mosaic of at least 250 ethnic groups (divided
within 7 major ethnic groups). Cameroon owes its
name to a Portuguese sailor - Fernando Pôo who
in 1472 was amazed by the amount of prawns in
the river Wouri which he named "Río dos Camarões"
whence the name Cameroon. |

golfe de Guinée, le Cameroun se déploie sur une
superficie de 475440 km2 et compte aujourd’hui
plus de 16 millions d’habitants répartis dans
une mosaïque de plus de 250 ethnies (au sein de
7 groupes ethniques principaux). Le Cameroun
doit son nom semble t-il, aux marins de Fernando
Pôo qui en 1472, s’extasièrent devant
l’abondance des crevettes dans l’estuaire du
Wouri et nommèrent le cours d’eau Río dos
Camarões, d'où le nom actuel du Cameroun. |
